SPRAGUE DAYS: a great success.

CITIZEN OF THE YEAR - HERMAN HARDER

GRAND MARSHALL - SYLVIA FOX

4-H PETTING BOOTH

CAR SHOW

YOUTH BUSINESS PERSONS

The parade, car show, music, bingo, petting area, sales booths, face painting, etc., all were enjoyable and favorites for the community. We saw the young and old out selling their wares and marketing their goods. All and all, this was a wonderful Sprague Days. The Chamber of Commerce deserves kudos for the activity and most especially to Jan Becker. Thanks again.

2008 Mud Bogging

Sorry about the delay. I just couldn't get it in gear and so the Mud Bog pictures are sorely delayed.

We are currently looking forward to the 2009 Mud Bogging to be the second Saturday in September. Get your rigs ready and the Sprague Volunteer Fire Department will provide the mud and the start flag.

Remember, this is one of the Fire Departments Fundraisers and is well worth the time and noise.

DEPOT ACTIVITY

This represents some of the activity that has been accomplished on the Depot. We are at this time fortunate that Farrah Brittain is working actively to bring this project to completion per the original grant requirements.

We could, if the community will participate, have a wonderful museum and information center to represent the community of Sprague. The following are some completed projects of like facilities.

Please watch for the community letters, emails, posters and word of mouth that meetings are being held for Depot activities. Let's complete this project for our community.

GARDENING TO START SOON!!!

Everyone keep in mind that the season for preparing for gardening is near at hand. Please be ready to plan and participate in composting, ground preparation, preparing starts and seedlings, etc.

Last years garden started late but was a success and with the combination of people wanting to have a community garden, we should have a successful season.

Be prepared for announcements from the Lutheran Church regarding the ground.

Catch The Reading Bug!

Our little library was a busy place every Tuesday & Thursday afternoon, when up to 15 kids came together to play & learn at our first annual summer reading program called Catch The Reading Bug.
The kids did crafts, played games & observed some interesting bugs - oh, and don't forget all the books they read - great job kids!
Highlights of the fun included the fear factor bug eating contest, the night crawler races & Daisy, the 17 year old tarantula that the kids each got a chance to touch. We also had an ant farm to observe, & did an experiment to see how many fruit flies we could grow using a banana in an old milk jug.
Judy did a great job of running the program, be sure to stop by the City office & say thanks for all her hard work.

Garden pictures

Welcome to our new community garden - somebody did a great job on that sign!

Located on the corner of 3rd & D streets, directly across from St Johns Lutheran Church. In this photo you can see Sprague Community Church in the background.

Sprague's Community Garden is growing!

Take some time to walk by Sprague's community garden. Members of the community have taken advantage of this garden space with the hopes that many more will utilize it in the future. Plans are being made to build raised beds for ease of gardening so that everyone in the community can take advantage of this great opportunity.

Community Garden

Check out the Community Garden at the corner of D and 3rd. The city has put in the water meter and the spigot, Tim has rototilled.

"Johnson's Park" or the Pass Way from Centennial to City

Please stop by and admire the work completed at the park between the Oasis and the old Sprague Tavern. Neighbors have come together and did their best to freshen up the park and make it available for resting, farmer's market, picnicking and such. Please visit the city office and let them know you appreciate the work that has been going on in the area.

Thank you to the community helpers.

Look What's Happening in Sprague!

A partnership between Horizons, Sprague’s city government, Sprague PDA, Rural Resources, and Lincoln County EDC, meeting to discuss sources of available funds to the community, enabled City Hall to employ 3 youth through WorkSource. One youth contributes hours to the city library, while the other 2 youth focus on renovation of the community depot as well as community beautification.

Nonprofit Status will help others

Sprague’s Horizons Steering committee worked with Gonzaga’s Law School to apply for 501c3 nonprofit status. This nonprofit status is required to house funds arriving at the end of the Horizons grant. During our research of an available 501c3, it was discovered there were no existing nonprofit organizations holding this status in Sprague. It was also learned that the food bank and senior meal programs are unable to utilize 2nd Harvest or Commodity foods because there is no 501c3 associated with them. Horizons will be able to act as a pass through organization that will enable these groups to access programs benefiting the community of Sprage.
State approval for the 501c3 was granted in February. We are now awaiting approval from the IRS.
